Nikon (G) – M4/3 lens mount
In a fit of boredom I recently bought a Nikon (g) to M 4/3 adapter from a company called K&F concept, via this ebay seller for GBP 10:

A brief intro to K&F mount adapters is available at the link below
I’ve been using the mount with two Nikon AIS lenses I’ve been using to experiment with a Nikon SLR film camera:
Nikkor 50mm f1.8: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/50mmnikkor/index4.htm
Nikkor 85mm f2.0: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/85mmnikkor/85mm2.htm
Brief observations and sample images below (all taken wide open) – taken with the K&F lens mount on an Olympus OM-D E-M5.
I prefer the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 to the 85mm f2.0 on M4/3, for a number of reasons:
- Sharpness – check out the image of my daughter. The 85mm images were a lot softer – i’m pretty sure i nailed focus in the images i’m sharing.
- Mechanics – both are very well, but i prefer the feel of the focus mechanics on the 50mm
- Size – it’s smaller, and with the lens mount is a better package on a m4/3 camera – the 85mm with the mount, is very front weighted
- 100m effective field of view is a lot easier to use than 160mm
- More pleasing bokeh – the bokeh on the 85mm is very distracting
The downside to the 50mm f1.8 seems to be very heavy purple/blue fringing (on the olympus em-5) and bad flare in night light conditions.
Images of these legacy lenses mounted to the E-M5
Images from the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AIS – taken on the olympus om-d, e-m5
Images from the Nikkor 85mm f2.0 AIS – taken on the olympus om-d e-m5
And finally – for interest – images taken on a film camera (Nikon FM3A), with Kodak Porta 4oo film using the the Nikkor AIS 85mm f2.0
